After three months of additional work, KDEnlive, the non-linear video editing software for Linux and other *nix desktops, has its long-awaited 0.8.2 release today, coinciding with the MLT framework 0.7.6 release.

These releases includes video stabilization filters, off-line editing with proxy clips, masking with the rotoscope filters, improved software stability, and better volume controls for the video, among the many improvements between the two projects.
Congratulations to the KDEnlive and MLT teams on a solid-looking release with many new features and bug fixes. I hope to use it soon on my Debian systems.

o_O That video stabilisation stuff is black magic. Never knew such a thing existed.
I still dont really jam with video editing apart from cutting (trimming?) a few home videos down but this seems like a nice feature for an idiot layman like me. This is why I love KDE! :)
@Ioannis A
For home videos, it can be nice to break up a long, single shot with cut-aways to other members of the family, looking on with admiration or as a reaction to an event or whatever. It makes the visual aspect more engaging, and just requires a few minutes of extra footage taken a few minutes before or after. Sometimes, even prompting a funny line ("say this! _____") or directing a person can have good results as well. Just put the main video on the Video 2 timeline, and the cut-away shots onto the Video 1 timeline to 'overlay' the layers. Maybe you know all of this, if course!
The stabilization stuff is cool mojo, isn't it? :D Thanks for coming by!
